The Certificate in Midwifery at Uganda Christian Institute of Nursing and Midwifery (UCINM) is a dynamic program designed to prepare students to deliver skilled, respectful, and evidence-based care to mothers and newborns. This program is ideal for individuals with a passion for maternal and child health and a commitment to serving communities with compassion and integrity.

Program Overview

This is a 2.5-year full-time program that combines theoretical instruction with intensive clinical practice. Students are equipped with the knowledge and practical skills required to:

  • Provide antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care

  • Assist during labor and delivery

  • Educate mothers on newborn care and family planning

  • Detect and manage common pregnancy-related complications

  • Promote reproductive and maternal health at the community level

The training is guided by Christian values and the standards of the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council (UNMC).

Minimum Academic Requirements for Intake

To qualify for the Certificate in Midwifery program, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Completed Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or its equivalent

  • Passed the following key subjects:

    • English Language

    • Biology

    • Mathematics

    • Chemistry

    • Physics

Additional requirements may include:

  • Must be at least 18 years old at the time of admission

  • A medical fitness report

  • Demonstration of good moral character and readiness to work in healthcare settings

Note: Female applicants are highly encouraged to apply, although the program is open to all qualified individuals.


Intake Periods

We admit new students twice a year:

  • January/February Intake

  • July/August Intake

Due to high demand, early application is encouraged.
