Program Overview

The National Certificate in Medical Records is a practical and career-focused program designed to train students in the effective management of medical records and health information systems. This course equips learners with the skills necessary to organize, maintain, and safeguard patients’ medical information, ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and accessibility within healthcare facilities.

Through a blend of theoretical knowledge and hands-on training, students will learn medical terminology, data management, health information systems, and the legal and ethical aspects of medical records management. Graduates will be well-prepared to support healthcare delivery by ensuring efficient information flow in hospitals, clinics, and other health institutions.

Minimum Academic Requirements for Intake

Applicants interested in enrolling in the National Certificate in Medical Records program must meet the following minimum academic requirements:

  • Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) with passes in at least 5 subjects including English Language and Biology or a related science subject

  • A minimum pass in English Language is mandatory

  • Candidates with relevant prior certificates or diplomas in health-related fields may be considered for direct entry

  • Mature applicants with relevant work experience and a pass in English Language may also be considered subject to an interview and/or entrance examination
